Is it difficult to build your own chicken coop in your backyard? If you are good with hand tools and able to read a building plans, it is actually quite easy.

Chickens are actually great family pets. Unlike a dog, they are literally very low maintenance. They are very happy to roam around the backyard doing their own business. If you think about it, chickens actually gives us more value in return. They lay eggs and also get rid of bugs and insects on the grass.

Because of their small size, chicken are exposed to animals such as cats, dogs and also large birds. In the winter months, they may also need shelter to keep warm. The best thing you can do for your chicken is to build a coop for them to live in. If you have the budget, you can get a pre-built coop.

As an alternatively, you can make one at home via a Do It Yourself (DIY) approach. What you will need are some chicken coop plans, building material and maybe a weekend to complete the project. The time you spend building a house for your chickens will be worthwhile because it will keep them safe and healthy.
